MEDIA RELEASE: Our Shoalhaven targets 10,000 signatures in support of a community voice in local planning
The Our Shoalhaven community campaign is stepping up its activities by launching a petition campaign to collect 10,000 signatures in support of a strong community voice in local planning.
SLEP Review Group Convenor Alan Burrows said, “The petition is directed at both local council and the state government requesting that the community’s views be considered and reflected in the Local Environment Plan. At the moment we are concerned that isn’t happening.
“The goal of 10,000 signatures is important because that is enough to trigger a debate in state parliament on this issue if we are ignored by council.
“Petitions are a great way to have a conversation with the local community. We are asking our members and supporters and the general public to download the petition, put it in their local shop or get their neighbours, friends and family to sign it and send it back to the Our Shoalhaven team.
“The key request in the petition is that councillors read the many public submissions and give proper consideration to the merits of the recommendations from the community.
“Last week’s full council meeting confirmed our concerns that many of the community submissions to the Draft Local Environment Plan were being ignored by the majority of our councillors. Hopefully the petition will be a timely reminder to our councillors of their responsibility to the community,” Mr Burrows said.
A copy of the petition can be seen here.

The Ulladulla Times will have a story in the edition tomorrow (25/4) about the campaign, website and petition so hopefully that will develop more awareness and support in the southern Shoalhaven area.
Thanks for the notice Jan. Looking forward to reading it and I will let our supporters know through the facebook page. Cheers. Justin Field, Our Shoalhaven
